- One in four young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 have a diagnosable mental illness
- Suicide is the third-leading cause of death among people aged 15 to 24.
- For college students, 23.2% of LGBTQ experienced suicidal ideation in the past 12 months.
Our guest is Kathryn Dewitt. She conquered high school like an Olympic athlete. She ran track, represented her school at statewide girls’ leadership program and took 8 Advanced Placement tests. During her first year in college, she was part of the statistic above. However, she is now a rising Senior at the University of Pennsylvania studying Psychology.
During a year-long leave of absence, she interned with Active Minds National in Washington D.C., volunteered at the informational HelpLine at the National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI), and worked as a Segway tour guide on the National Mall. Through her personal experiences, she has become committed to changing the way that the world discusses mental health, suicide, and LGBTQ.
